Why is the false killer whale endangered? In: Endangered Species, Whales [Recategorize] |
[Edit] |
Answer
because it is hunted for its skin, meat and because it is thought to be a threat.
Additional Info: After checking the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service List of Endangered Species, then checking the NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources, and finally checking the IUCN Red List (which only stated "data deficient"), and on another site as Low Risk, I can only conclude that the False Killer Whale isn't now on any of these lists as endangered or threatened. This species may be in the research phase or it's population under study, but at present it isn't listed on any of these lists. There are several research studies on this species' life history, breeding/population and stock structure in Hawaii currently.
