Not the First Freestanding Hotel
It is not the first freestanding hotel. Most hotels in Tokyo are freestanding. The Peninsula is the first "free-standing luxury hotel to be built in Tokyo in more than a decade". Having said that, in its price range, most other big international hotels are either on top of office space (Park Hyatt, Mandarin, Conrad) or part of a complex (Grand Hyatt).
