An undergraduate is a person who is studying for a first degree at a university. They become a graduate on the day that they have finished their studies and in many cases, attend a graduation ceremony at their place of study.

Undergrad means 1000-4000 level courses (freshman to senior college courses). After you finish your required undergraduate courses, you will be awarded a B.S. or a B.A.-depending on which path you chose.
Graduate school-this is where it gets good-is usually 5000-8000 level courses. A graduate student is one who is striving for his or her master's or doctorate degree. Sometimes the college will allow you to count some undergrad (one or two) courses for your grad degree. Of course, this is an advanced degree, above and beyond an standard college bachelor's degree. Many, if not most, graduate degrees require original research (thesis) on the part of the student (candidate).
