Josh Ruchotzke is a seventh grader from Hanna City, IL. He has been battling a very serious medical condition since late January. After spiking a high fever and suffering severe joint pain, it was found that Josh had contracted a rare form of Strep A bacteria which threatened his life. With great strength, Josh's body fought the disease. However, as his body focused on keeping his vital organs safe his extremities were deprived blood and oxygen. After being at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL, for four weeks, Josh was then transferred to Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, CO which has specialists in extremities. Josh has since lost both legs below the calf and parts of both hands. He is recovering well and continuing to show great strength.
