Should you book airfare with your cruise package?

[Edit]

Answer

If you don't mind showing up a little early you can certainly save some money. Don't cut it close though, if the plane is late you loose out on the cruise. If you use THEIR airfare they'll make sure you get to the ship if you're late.

Fly out a couple days early and enjoy the scenery then you get the best of cheap airfare and enjoying the scenery.

Answer

Redbeard is correct, that if you elect to do airfare on your own (better price or frequent flyer miles) make sure you fly out at least a day ahead of your embarkation. This will ensure you don't miss your voyage and gives you a day to get rid of any jet lag, if applicable.

Booking through the cruise line, you will generally benefit from their wholesale and packaged pricing and protected if you flights are delayed or cancelled. The cruise line is then responsible to get you alternate flights or fly you to the next port to catch up with the vessel in extreme situations.

Happy Sailing!
