On what continent was the oldest fossil found? |

Answer
AFRICA
Answer
In Western Australia there is a place called Shark Bay. In the shallows near shore are what look like "stumps" which are actually structures built by colonies of algae. Inland from the bay in the arid outback, there are the remains of fossilized "stumps" that date back some 3.5 billion years. The stumps are called stromatolites. And you'd have to turn the clock back a loooong way to see the dawn when the microorganisms that built the fossilized stromatolites were busy laying down the first chemical "bricks" to lift the structure clear of the "surface of initiation" upon which these earliest known fossils were erected.
