ANSWER
If you are asking as an industry for a possible career, then it is possible to make a very good living in both. Some of the highest paying jobs are in the financial and brokerage sector.
Remember, you almost always work as a broker- meaning that you are a full time salesperson. Brokers aren't paid a salary and only make money on commissions on orders. Oh, by the way- you have to provide your own customers who are willing to let you invest there money for them. This is usually tricky for someone just out of high school or college.
As you can see, this is a hard business to get started in, but if you are smart, tenacious, a hard worker (and don't mind getting up at 4:00 AM in CA), and you don't mind being on the phone 6-7 hours a day making cold calls, this could be for you.

Answer
Commodity and stock are two separate markets. Both risky. Commodity is a zero sum game. They are not suitable for most people. It is unlikely to earn steady income in these businesses. Best way to learn is to risk a small amount of money and plunge right in after doing paper trade.
