You need to do whatever is going to make you most happy. If that means going with the chat guy then you must not forget the feelings of the guy you have been with for 8 years. Is this going to come out of nowhere to him or is he on the same page as you in terms of you both growing apart? Realize that the way you 'break up' with him can impact him and probably you too for years to come. Since you have been with him for 8 years though, hopefully you know his personality and can be understanding to whatever reaction he might have.

Make sure before you make any decision you give the investment of 8 years you have already make respect and think it through fully. That does not mean staying in that relationship and being unhappy.
