This question is somewhat a toughy. A man who wants his girlfriend to back off? Fighting is no fun if its constant and men get turned off by bitching women. People who love each other want to be together as much as possible,one would think. Also after seven months things should be getting hotter as they're becoming closer. The man might think that the tyme out may be a cure to the fighting and if he does love her,then in his mind this is a possible solution to cure the fighting episodes. It could work for the better or maybe the worse.

If he really loves you, that love won't die just because of arguments. He probably wants a time-out, just as we give time-out to unruly children. A time-out to regroup and think about what's going on and why. During the first few months of dating people basically show the best sides of themselves and 7 months seems to be long enough to let some other sides show. Sometimes the other sides are not so pleasant which could cause some uncomfortable feelings. Arguments are the results of finding out other parts about the person, it's an adjustment period. It looks bad but it's good. Respect his request and give him the space he's asking for. Don't sweat the adjustment period.
